Forestry Green House Gas Carbon Offset Verification and Validation Services

As the world becomes more aware of the effects of global climate change, individuals and businesses are looking for ways they can take action to address climate change. The forestry sector is vitally important in these efforts because forests have a tremendous capacity to sequester carbon dioxide (CO2), a major greenhouse gas (GHG), through the process of photosynthesis. CO2 is absorbed from the atmosphere and stored as carbon in the biomass of stems, branches, leaves, and roots. When forest managers undertake projects to store carbon beyond “business as usual,” the stored carbon can be available for trade to offset CO2 emissions of other entities. This market-based mechanism is designed to contribute to the overall GHG reduction target goals of California State Law Assembly Bill 32* (AB32).

Forester’s Co-Op is taking a leadership role in the forestry sector by obtaining accreditation for Greenhouse Gas Validation and Verification through the American National Standards Institute** (ANSI). The accreditation will be applicable to a broad spectrum of industries and will potentially support work already under way within established GHG programs, such as The Climate Registry, the California Climate Action Registry, the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) and Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI).

Forester’s Co-Op provides independent third party validation and verification services for registration forestry carbon offset projects. Our services are designed to meet the highest level of forest GHG offset protocol rigor for CO2 reductions for the purposes of registering the projects with either the Climate Action Reserve (CA) or The Climate Registry (national) for carbon offset trading purposes. We use the most reliable sampling and forest data collection methods available that adhere to the California Climate Action Registry (CCAR)’s General Reporting and Forestry Protocols to verify that reductions are real, additional, and permanent. Review our GHG Verification Protocol and/or our GHG Validation Protocols.

To learn more information about our Forestry Carbon Offset Verification and Validation services, please contact our forestry staff at info@forco-op.com or by calling 530-273-8326. The registration of your forestry projects for GHG offsets will provide you with an additional revenue stream for the continued stewardship of your forest resources.

* AB32 is aimed at reducing GHG emissions to 1990 levels by 2020 – a reduction of about 25 persona, and then an 80 person reduction below 1990 by 2050.

**The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has served in its capacity as administrator and coordinator of the United States private sector voluntary standardization system for more than 90 years.
